Les commissions municipales permettent aux élus d'étudier les dossiers présentés par l'adjoint au maire chargé du secteur et les services municipaux correspondants afin de préparer les décisions du maire et du Conseil municipal. Tous les groupes y sont représentés (majorité et oppositions).
Elles s’ouvrent parfois à des experts extérieurs pour avis et consultation chaque fois que cela est nécessaire.
